This week was really crazy
It was short with much to do
However, sometimes learning
Can involve turning blue...
Wednesday we left early
And had resource all through the day
We had assemblies twice this week
And were on the news, Hooray!
Friday resulted in a mess
With paint strewn everywhere
Learning through play is a necessity
And these kiddos loved their share
Enjoy the pics and realize
That these kids learn all day long
Social, academic and functional skills
We keep on going strong!
I have a shortage of pics this week!!! We introduced the iPad into the classroom and I spent a lot of time teaching the kids how to use it appropriately and rarely had my camera/phone at the ready to take pics. Oh well, I am sure there will be plenty more to come! :) See you all next week.

Parent Question:....Hmmm. I did not really get one. Anyone want to ask a question in comments?
Class Challenge of the Week
Finding enough time to reach every child.
Getting outside resources is another challenge right now. I am
trying to help parents in the classroom receive outside help from
agencies. I am seeking further info from the district and hope to have a
list put together soon. If you have any resources you wish to share PLEASE do so...either here or email me!

Where do you find your ideas for lessons? Is there a resource you prefer over another?
ReplyDeleteWhat a joy to see your class included in the school assembly. I am so proud of David being able to sit and participate!! I always share the blog with David's ABA therapist at CARD, Elise and she thinks this is wonderful. Elise wanted me to ask you about independent activities David can do at home. There are many pictures of him completing independent work, do you have any samples? I would love to be able to have some similar activities that he can complete at home in the evenings/weekends.
ReplyDeleteAuntie Nay- the lessons as far as ULS and PCI are just from the curriculum at school. I honestly come up with a theme and research ideas for filler work. I still want them to experience regular ed type experiences. Like for example today, since we are doing community helpers, I had the kids recreate a mouth, using pink paper, red paper, and marshmallows for teeth! it was awesome, did marshamallows get eaten? YES, did some get thrown....YES, by ME? YES! It was fun..I am sure more pics are to come. I am a huge advocate for ULS or Unique Learning System. The website is amazing and really provides the kids with all the tools they need to succeed!
ReplyDeleteMrs. Vails, David was hilarious. When the other children clapped he was SO into it! I am thrilled you are sharing the website as well. I definitely have some things you can take home for him to do. David is a MASTER at sorting colors, and shapes. I have two books I will let you take home Friday to test the water and see if he will do for you this weekend. The key is to NOT linger over him but to show him his reward ( favorite toy, or edible) and move away, but not so far he can escape. See his reaction. A lot of students wont work at home with parents, and even wont work in the the class when parents are there....but let us try it out!!!!
