The New Year Is Here!!!!!

The New Year is here!
What exciting news indeed
We have students who are learning
We have kiddos that can read!
So much effort are they making
Getting schedules back down pat
Only took a week of trying
To remember where we're at
Now we move along in winter
Studying animals who love it so
Penguins, polars, snowy owls
They love living in the snow
Next few weeks we will explore
Learning things that we can do
Five senses, community helpers
Some field trips?  Yes it's true!
Excited for this New Year
Oh the possibilities!
Check out all we have been doing
Our class is hard at work you'll see!

Enjoy the pics!  And make sure to read the bottom of the page for news!

Matthew came back to school and retained ALL the words he was taught this fall! Go Matthew!

David building his name graphing snowman.

Great work Corey!

Yay Peyton!!!  100% Independent.

This is a polar bear literacy experience I made for our kids.  They match the pics in order of the story Polar Bear Polar Bear.

Penguins Shape Match.  Abbie is getting this down !

I love the graph they created with the snowmen! It is up in the room.

Writing our favorite character from our book of the month.

Chris liked Baby Joshua

Abbie likes the actress from the story...

Verbal prompting only....great progress Abbie!

David now does this independently!

Hi Chase! Keep it up!

Peyton is getting much better at putting the pieces in the boxes the right way.

Learning about penguins and labeling one too!

Some wrote the answers....

...and some hid behind me...who IS that?

Christophers handwriting is improving dramatically!

Abbie helps out by glueing on the word "bill".  Great job Abbie!

Time to do our own graphic organizer.

I could not be prouder....

Guess we needed a sensory break.

Great fine motor skills ...

Special guest star! David's sister HANNAH!!!!!!!  I will have you next year doll face!

Wet sand...rocks.

King of the mountain?

David's response to "ready....set... JUMP!"

?Hat? What hat.... Chris is such a joker. I love this.

He sits in Ms. Krystal's chair and pretends to nap.  Tapping his legs as if to say, " have a seat Ms. Krystal."

This was actually a very sweet peer interaction and great social skills for both these kiddos.  Chase wanted to play with Abbie and kept holding her hands.  Abbie was equally nice back and responded by brushing his hands then walking away. It was awesome.

Peas in a pod these two! And NOOO ...they are not sitting on a table... Never....not in my class. Nope.

Chase finishing up his collage snowman.

David strengthening his catching/throwing skills.

Awesome job David!  Not to bad Mr. Franken ;)

Making our craft of the week! Penguin!  That is Ms. O. my Cadre.  I am almost done with my Mentoring New Teacher Program. :)
Glad you are back and feeling better Matthew.  He wrote all his in with visual prompting.

David is trying to master using one finger on the NOOK.

He is ambidextrous when it comes to the Nook too.

Never....correct a students art work.

Because you will miss their perception of reality.  And I think this is a pretty awesome example of that.

After completing his sentence strips Matthew read this whole story aloud...

Nice concentration and focusing Abbie.

We just finished book 4 in the curriculum! You boys rock!

Chase has pretty much mastered this four piece visual discrimination board.   So proud of him.

Penguin life cycle!

Thank you to the Maas family for a beautiful puzzle to work on with Abbie.

I love that this puzzle goes from 3 pieces up and has several ways you can vary difficulty.  The large pieces make it easy to grasp and the bright colors hold Abbie's attention.

Speech with Ms. Spivey!

Yes, she looks big on it....but so do my Kindergartners!  Very hard bike to pedal as well.  We will keep working on it though!

I just can't help it, I love this pic.

I hope you all enjoyed the pics and activities this week.  Something I wanted to share with you is that my class has entered a poem, based on our activities and learning about penguins this week, into the school poetry contest.  I am hoping we have a winner!  While I guided the poem, I did not write it for them and let them use words that they learned about penguins this week.  The poem is awesome, and I am so proud of them.  Those who were non verbal contributed by bringing up words to glue on the poster, others wrote the words in.  I typed the poem and submitted it for literacy week, while I am a chair on the committee I am not allowed to vote on it obviously ;)  But I have a great feeling about this poem.  It is SOOOO our kids.  I will not be sharing it today.  So be looking for a nice typed and laminated copy of your kiddos poem, coming home next week.  I want it to be as special for you as it was for the class and for the school.  I wanted them to see just what your children are capable of doing.

Parent Question Of The Week:
I have several parents asking about my beautiful necklace.  It was a gift from a wonderful student this Christmas and it comes from the
website.  If you wish to order any of these products, it will help me win an iPad for the classroom and for me to use with your kiddos.  The pieces have to be from the "iPad Challenge" section and you will have to enter my name at checkout.  I need to sell 60 pieces to win the iPad.  I know this is legitimate because the Maas family did this and won Abbie her iPad...and they also gave me the beautiful piece you see me wear daily.  I am in no way prompting you to buy something I am just responding to the parent question of the week, "WHERE DID YOU GET THAT!?"

 Video of the Week!

Class Challenge of the week?
Getting back in our GROOVE!

  1. I am so glad you mentioned the blog to me this morning Mrs. Suratt. I was wondering why I have not received it in 2 weeks. I thought maybe she is just so busy teaching the children that she hasn't had time to bog, we'll I was definitey wrong!! I am now trying to catch up. I am so excited about this blog because I know it is a "voice" for my son, David who is non-verbal. Since David cannot verbally tell me how his day is at school, the blog allows me to see him at school working, playing, etc. and the captions below the pictures explain what each child is doing. This blog is such a blessing, it is a "voice" for the children that may not have a verbal voice at this time. This blog has given me and my husband ideas of things to do with David at home. The picture of you and my Hannah is so cute and sweet!!
